ASUS U3S6 PCI-E Card To Be First Featuring USB 3.0

October 30, 2009 at 10:10:35 PM, by Daniel Shain Rating: 0 out of 5

The ASUS U3S6 PCI-E card will feature USB 3.0 ports as well as meeting SATA 6.0 specifications. This is expected to be the first such card to make use of the new high speed USB ports.

The card will feature two USB 3.0 ports and two SATA 6.0 ports. It is worth noting that not many products yet exist which can utilize the full speed potential USB 3.0 offers, although as time goes on that number is sure to rise just as it did when companies converted from USB 1.0 to USB 2.0. ASUS has also included this card on their latest motherboards, the Xtreme Design P7P55D-E series, which can support the newest Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs. Those mainboards will include the 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as a total of 10 additional USB 2.0 ports.

The motherboard costs $299 and the PCI-E card alone costs $29. They should be available next month.

Tech words explained

"Clock Frequency"
This term refers to the speed of the computer component. Clock frequency uses “hertz” (Hz) as its base unit. Note that 1 Megahertz (MHz) refers to 1,000,000 hertz, while 1 Gigahertz (GHz) refers to 1,000 MHz. This number refers to the number of cycles the CPU can process per second. Hertz refers to the number of cycles per second the CPU operates at, similar to how a car engine runs at different RPM’s (Revolutions per Minute). Faster clock frequency usually suggests faster performance, but some processors and their components are designed to do more “work” every cycle.
