BenQ has announced the release of two ultraportables, the Joybook S35 and S43. The notebooks come with 13.3 and 14-inch screen, and are equipped with consumer Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processors.
The notebooks offer a range of processors starting from the Intel Celeron 723/743 CPUs with 1.20GHz/1.30GHz clocks and Core 2 solo 1.40 GHz processor. But for high performance, an option for Core 2 duo SU7300 1.30 GHz processor is also available. These new CULV based notebooks deliver a significant performance increase from the Intel Atom series, while maintaining low energy profiles. This gives the notebooks five hours of battery life. However, the optional 8-cell battery upgrade can deliver eleven hours of battery time. Both notebooks include eSATA, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and a Webcam. They are both equipped with 1366 x 768 resolution displays and sport 500GB hard drives. The difference is that the S35 comes with integrated Intel GMA4500M graphics, whereas the S43 comes with ATI Radeon HD4330 discrete graphics.
The CULV notebooks are currently available for sale in China and Taiwan with planned availability in the United States.. However, no information about a release date or pricing has been announced.
