Laptop Logic has learned that Apple will be conducting a battery recall soon.
Laptop Logic has learned from industry sources that Apple will be initiating a battery recall of its own.
As most of you should be familiar, Dell recently announced a massive 4.1 million battery recall, specifically regarding batteries manufactured by Sony. There has been concern in the industry that other manufacturers may be affected by the Sony battery defects, considering Dell & Sony knew of the defects 10 months ago and numerous other companies use Sony batteries.
Fujitsu, Toshiba, HP, Apple, and Lenovo all use Sony batteries. Fujitsu, Toshiba, and HP all insisted that their designs are different enough from Dell's that no abnormal fire risk is posed. Lenovo says they are not in the least worried about a battery failure of this type, as they actually use a dedicated microprocessor which monitors battery & power conditions. Were there to be a catastrophic failure as with the Dell batteries, Lenovo's monitoring system would detect this and cut power to the battery before any type of damage could occur.
We don't have an exact timeline for the Apple battery recall, but one is expected soon.
