The new Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro laptop not really THAT fast as Apple claims.
The recently released MacBook Pro refresh with Intel Core 2 Duo processors delivers up to 39 percent faster than previous MacBook Pro with Core Duo according to Apple.
With speed bumps up to 2.33GHz and 2.16GHz upgraded 4MB cache in the new MacBook Pos, MacWorld took this 39 percent faster claim to the test.
Using a 15-inch MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo both clocked at 2.16GHz, Speedmark test shows exactly 10 percent speed difference. The 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro is 19% faster than the older Core Duo 2.16GHz machine.
MacWorld's benchmarks continue to say the Core 2 Duo does however improve in other performance tests - for example the 2.33GHz MacBook pro was 40 percent faster than the older 2.16GHz Core Duo in MP3-encoding using iTunes. Using identical clock speeds of 2.16GHz with Core 2 Duo and Core Duo MacBooks, tests shows a 25 percent increase.
