Mobile Phones safe to use in Hospitals

March 12, 2007 at 12:35:00 AM, by Thai Tan Rating: 0 out of 5

Study: cell phone use do not affect medical devices.

U.S. researchers said making calls on cell phones do not affect hospital medical devices.

Researchers conducted over 300 tests at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and involving 192 medical devices said using cell phones caused no noticeable interference with patient care equipment. However, they said portable CD player caused an abornmal electrocardiographic (ECG) reading when a patient used it near a medical device.

Most hospitals do not allow the use of cell phones but this latest research finding may change some hospital ruling.

Further, a couple of doctors reported that anti-theft devices set up near doors of retail stores can cause pacemakers to malfunction.
