LED Backlight Becomes Standard for Small Notebook LCDs

July 23, 2007 at 05:25:00 AM, by Thai Tan Rating: 0 out of 5

In 2008, 7% of the notebooks will sport LED backlight LCD.

LED Backlight LCDs are 'happening' for small notebooks at a very fast rate!

According to reports, the penetration rate of LED backlighting used in 10-inch-and-smaller LCD panels has reached cent percent starting this year. As a result, most 10-inch-and-smaller LCD panels are using LED backlighting.

LED backlight sources will continue to penetrate in the 13-inch-and-smaller notebook panel market. Leading notebook manufacturers including Dell, HP, Toshiba and Apple have already jumped on to the LED bandwagon. In 2008, the same would be even more visible. As small- to- medium size panels are using fewer LEDs, the price gap between CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) and LED backlighting in panels is small.

Although LED backlighting currently is more suitable for high-end products due to pricing issues, notebook makers and panel makers are all positive about the demand for LED backlighting in the future and expect that around 7% of the notebook market will adopt LED backlighting in 2008, compared to 3-5% this year.

The future of notebooks in 2008 is very bright, LED bright!
