Palm loves to call it - \'not a laptop\'.
While Palm doesn't have a precise launch date announced for the Foleo, it is expected to be available soon. It's only a matter of time..
Palm demonstrated their mobile companion called the 'Foleo' to developers at the LinuxWorld conference. For the uninformed, Foleo is a 2.5-pound Linux device which connects to Windows Mobile or Palm OS powered smartphones. It features 128MB RAM and 256MB of non-volatile memory. It boots-up immediately on the press of a button. Wireless connectivity options are through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Foleo will represent the first device on Palm's new Mobile Companion series of products. On the hardware front, Foleo sports 416 MHz Intel/Marvell PXA27x processor and Marathon 2700G graphics which is capable of XGA video output. A CompactFlash/SD card slot is also provided for additionary storage. The 10.2-inch 1024x600 Widescreen LCD helps you check e-mails and surf the internet on its big screen with the luxury of a full QWERTY keypad. Battery life is expected to be near 5-hours!

Networking:
Palm's Foleo has some really interesting networking features. Infrastructure and ad-hoc Wi-Fi networking configurations will supported by the Foleo. Open, WEP, WPA, and 802.1X Enterprise security configurations will be available to users, while WPA2 will not.
At launch, this model will not include software to allow users to transfer files via a Bluetooth connection, but this device's developer notes make it clear that it would be possible for a third-party to create the necessary software.
The USB port on the Foleo mobile companion will support the standard mass storage profile. Any flash drive or standard hard drive that conforms to this profile will be automatically mounted upon connection. It will support both FAT16 or FAT32.

Software:
Palm's Foleo will has the Opera Web browser, an e-mail application, a PDF viewer, and a version of DataViz' DocumentsToGo that lets you edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the move. Foleo is an open platform for development, other multimedia capabilities like video and audio playback are expected too.
Availability & Pricing:
There is no official launch date announced for the Foleo. At the LinuxWorld conference, the Foleo was in its retail packaging already. This makes us think that the launch isn't far saway. Priced at $600, Palm will offer $100 rebate as an introductory offer.
