Acer Updates Ferrari Series

September 22, 2007 at 01:13:00 PM, by Steve Martinez Rating: 0 out of 5

Finally, an internal optical drive for the 1000!

Acer just completed new designs on their Aspire and Ferrari series. The Ferrari series is what's getting us excited.

Returning is the sleek carbon-fiber exterior with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor, and ATI Radeon X1250 with 960MB of HyperMemory rolling behind a 12.1" WXGA display with Acer's signature CrystalBrite display technology. Information is stored via a 250GB HDD, the speed of which hasn't been disclosed.

The AMD processor can be seen as counter-intuitive for a Ferrari-branded notebooks. They've been behind Intel in creating powerful, low-power processors for the mobile market. Also, the lack of discrete graphics memory via the ATI Radeon card is a sad loss for a mobile market that's beginning to embrace the importance of dedicated graphics memory on entertainment notebooks.

However, it's important to note that the Ferrari 1100 the portable choice in the Ferrari series. Acer also has the Ferrari 5000, which is the powerhouse of the line.

There are two built-in speakers, and an integrated optical drive, which was a big gripe we had about the old Ferrari 1000. Weight is still under 2 kg with the drive.

Not bad. Unfortunately, Acer declined to release any official photos of the new Ferrari, so forgive the quality of the shot.
