Rumor Busted: Paramount Denies Move to Blu-ray

January 13, 2008 at 10:17:00 AM, by Steve Martinez Rating: 0 out of 5

Prefers to go down with ship.

Last week we shared a rumor from the Financial Times that Paramount Studios was jumping the H.M.S. HD-DVD to join the juggernaut that is the Blu-ray consortium.

Paramount released a statement today claiming, "Paramount's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format." It doesn't get more clear than that, although who's to say who long this will last.

However, no one denied the Financial Times assertion that Paramount has a clause in its contract that allows it to switch camps if Warner Bros. leaves, which happened early this month.

Consider this rumor busted.

Tech words explained

"Cache Memory"
Type of memory that is very close to the CPU, and usually built into the CPU. Cache does not contain large amounts of data, but it is very easy for the CPU to access it quickly. Due to the nature of programs, small amounts of cache memory can provide drastic performance increases. All CPUs have an L1 (level one) cache, and most of an integrated L2 (level two) cache. L1 cache provides the quickest access, and L2 cache has slower access but can store more data.
