Intel's Pricing for WiMAX & new WiFi Modules Revealed

Wondering what's next for wireless modules which seat neatly inside your laptop's mini PCIe slot? Well, Intel has just released details on their upcoming wireless modules on the Centrino 2 platform.
The Echo Peak WiMAX/Wi-Fi and Shirley Peak Wi-Fi modules will shart shipping to notebook manufacturers in the second and third quarter of 2008. With Echo Peak and Shirley Peak release, Intel expects quicker 802.11n WiFi adoption.
The Echo Peak wireless modules has support for both WiMAX and 802.11n WiFi and will be available in the price range of $43 to $54 per unit. The $19-$30 Shirley Peak module will support only the N-WiFi protocol.

Expected Shipments:
With Centrino 2 release in the next quarter, it's expected that those notebooks will account for over 50% of Intel's shipments by end of 2008. According to reports, the penetration rate of 802.11n devices is expected to see a surge in the last quarter of 2008 or in the first half of 2009.
