Behind the scenes look at the NBA from tech perspective.
Move over Kobe, youre not the only MVP powering the NBA finals. The MVP of the NBA Finals (Most Valuable PC) is Lenovo. The Chinese company that bought IBM a few years ago is the official PC Partner of the NBA for 2 consecutive years. This means Lenovo provides computer desktops & laptops, Lenovo Stat, and other means of support. We were lucky to attend The Finals in Los Angeles.
Being of the most rugged and stable PCs out there, Lenovo computers play a critical role in supporting the behind-the-scenes operations during the games, including powering the Start/Time Clock and recording real-time stats. Thanks to the small-size & touch-screen display, the Lenovo ThinkPad X60 tablet makes it more efficient for the recorder to input the data for every play. A total of 675,000 stats are recorded each NBA season so imagine the accuracy and stability that is required.
Lenovo Stat calculates the power of teamwork by calculating the point differential when a player or team is in the game to access their effect on the team (Source: Lenovo). With this, Lenovo Stat predicts the Celtics will defeat Lakers.
At the time of this writing, Celtics are ahead 3 games to 2. Will the Lenovo Stat prove to be true? We'll find out tonight in Game 6!
Kudos to Lenovo for powering their excellent computers to bring basketball fans the games.
