A typo on Intel\'s website listed the T2300E with a 15W TDP.
Earlier this week we ran a story on how Intel's new Core Duo T2300E was listed as having a 15W TDP, so much for that!
While searching for exactly what the difference is between the more expensive T2300 and its replacement, the T2300E, we noticed that Intel's own webpage listed the T2300E as having a 15W TDP. We weren't quite sure if this was a typo, or a miraculous feat of technology that allowed Intel to sell a low power chip at a bottom of the barrel price point.
It was indeed a typo, as confirmed by Intel, and the website has been updated to reflect this. However we did find out the only difference between the T2300 and T2300E: the T2300E lacks virtualization. Virtualization (VT) is a technology that allows the processor to run multiple, independent operating systems from different partitions on the disk. While this may be useful to IT personell or developers, your average consumer looking for the most bang-for-the-buck in their new dual core laptop won't really care about VT. Because of this, Intel remove the VT capability from the T2300E and is now able to offer a Core Duo processor at the low price of $209, as we covered with the recent announcement of Intel's May 28th price cuts.
