EMTEC has announced their new nettop, the G-Top Box based on Nvidia's Ion Platform.
The attractively designed Nettop is powered by the Nvidia's Ion platform which uses Geforce 9400M GT for graphics processing. This gives Ion platform enough processing power to handle high definition content with ease. EMTEC has boxed it in a beautiful and light casing to make up a small HTPC for watching movies and running basic programs.
The G-Top Box might be termed as the world smallest capable Computer. The Nettop is placed over a mount, which can be connected to the back of a Monitor. However, the current model does not include an HDMI which is needed to connect it to a HDTV. EMTEC however promises a model which will be HDMI equipped. The device is small enough to be taken around with ease and can be used for basic tasks such as browsing, watching movies and listening to songs as well light gaming (because of the onboard GPU). The best part is that the device only consumes 8W at load.
Specification:
- Intel Atom Processor
- 160 GB HDD
- 1 GB DDR2 RAM
- Nvidia Ion including Geforce 9400M GPU
- 6 USB 2.0 ports
- VGA Connector
- Starting Price: £179 ($293)
The nettop is quite capable little device, but it will become more useful once HDMI port is included. The price however is a little less than similar products, so it might become a better choice than many other Ion based devices in the market.
