Intel Debuts Mobile Core i7 Platform

The first ever Core i7 CPUs designed for use in laptops, these new "Clarksfield" processors are set to launch with several major OEMs immediately.

Intel has recently released 3 Core i7 chips based on their most recent Nehalem architecture. The three quad-core 45nm chips are the Core i7-720QM, the Core i7-820QM, and the Intel Core i7 Extreme i7-920XM for high-performance gaming. The 720QM clocks in at 1.6GHz with 6MB of cache, while the 820QM trumps that with 1.73GHz and 8MB cache. But the 920XM surpasses them both, with a clock speed of 2.0GHz.

Among other improvements, the chips will offer Intel Turbo Boost technology, which will accelerate the CPU clock speed. They will feature new Hyper-Threading capabilities, and will support DDR3 1333MHz memory.

ASUS, Dell, HP and Toshiba are expected to release laptops featuring these chips immediately.
