Stops accepting new orders from netbook makers.
According to reports, Intel will no longer accept orders for its Z-series Atom CPU, primarily intended for MID (Mobile Internet Device) use. The netbook restriction laid down by Intel on the N-series Atom processors, meant manufacturers turned to these Z-series Atom chips for non-traditional netbooks like Eee PC T91, Sony VAIO P and Dell Mini 12.
Intel plans to completely stop the supply of Atom Z-series processors to netbook makers by the end of 2009. This move is expected to clearly differentiate the netbook chips (Atom N-series) and MID ones (Z-series).
Intel will fulfill orders already placed by Acer, Asustek & MSI. Intel's next-gen Atom chips as part of Pine Trail platform are already scheduled for release later this year.
