Ups the ante on all aspects of the original X300!

This time around Lenovo is surely not taking any chances! Just when rumors of an update to MacBook Air started making the rounds - Lenovo was quick to make the official announcement. And here we have it - the ThinkPad X301. The new ultra-thin, ultra-light and no-compromise ultra-portable laptop which is similar to the classic X300 but only faster and better.

The X301 will be powered by next-gen Core 2 Duo ULV Intel CPUs like 1.2GHz U9300 & 1.4GHz U9400. Both the models feature 6MB of L2 cache and 1,066MHz FSB speed. The system will support up to 2GB (just?) of DDR3 RAM and feature SSDs of 64GB/128GB capacity. Starting at less than three pounds and one-inch thin, the X301 will also feature DisplayPort (+ VGA) and an ultra-thin optical drive. Connectivity will it will do it all - WiFi; Bluetooth; GPS; WiMAX; WWAN and UWB. WiMAX models however are expected to be available later in the year.

Tech words explained

"Clock Frequency"
This term refers to the speed of the computer component. Clock frequency uses “hertz” (Hz) as its base unit. Note that 1 Megahertz (MHz) refers to 1,000,000 hertz, while 1 Gigahertz (GHz) refers to 1,000 MHz. This number refers to the number of cycles the CPU can process per second. Hertz refers to the number of cycles per second the CPU operates at, similar to how a car engine runs at different RPM’s (Revolutions per Minute). Faster clock frequency usually suggests faster performance, but some processors and their components are designed to do more “work” every cycle.
