Drops 80GB hard drive restriction which earlier crippled netbook manufacturers from offering better storage options to go along with Windows XP.
Microsoft has just got a bit more lenient with their restrictions on Windows XP for netbooks. The software giant earlier restricted use of Windows XP on netbooks to just 10.2" non-touchscreen LCD, 80GB HDD and 1GB RAM.
So, the good news is we can soon expect netbooks with double the hard drive capacity as even the 160GB ones are now permitted along with Windows XP. Already released in the Taiwan market are MSI Wind U100 and Eee PC 1000H with 160GB spinning hard drives.
SSDs are a nice thing to have but considering the latest trend of having regular hard drives in netbooks to keep the cost down, manufacturers might as well give us good storage instead of 40/80GB HDDs. The price difference is obviously miniscule.
Any other restrictions you want Microsoft to do away with?
