Microsoft's SideSight Tech Offers Screenless MultiTouch

Microsoft aims to take multi touch to a new level with SideSight, a hands-off 'touchscreen' allowing users to control their gadgets without leaving messy fingerprints.
The biggest complaint about touchscreens are the fingerprints - the bigger the screen, the more prints there are, and it seems like no matter how often you clean the device, there's always fingerprints left over.
Microsoft's SideSight multi touch project will eliminate that issue by allowing users to control a 'touchscreen' without actually having to touch the screen.
SideSight works by mounting sensors along the sides of a gadget, which will detect your finger movements up to a full 10cm away from the device. A sharp jerk towards the device can be used to click, which circular motions can be used to rotate.
Microsoft currently has a working model using an HTC Touch and sensors connected to a computer via USB, which transmits the signals via Bluetooth.
Integrating the sensors into the device is the next step, and Microsoft claims that one day the system could allow users to utilize multi-touch on very small devices that otherwise wouldn't be able to utilize a touchscreen.
