The little green laptop is back in the spotlight - starting today, you can purchase an XO laptop from Amazon and one will be shipped overseas.
It's that time of year again - One Laptop Per Child has launched their second laptop drive, sending one laptop to a needy child when you purchase one for yourself. The easy-to-spot green laptops have been plagued by shipping issues in the past, but OLPC is teaming with Amazon this year in an effort to keep everything running smooth.
You will be able to place your orders at Amazon.com starting today. The laptops will be shipped within 30-days if you live in the US, or longer if you're in a different country.
The laptops will cost $399. If that's a bit too steep for you, or if you're just not the type to carry around a low-power green laptop, then there's also the option of purchasing one laptop to be sent to a child abroad for $199.
The XO laptop was created by MIT for kids in countries where education is limited. OLPC shipped over 500,000 to over 31 countries, and hope to make that number 1 million by the end of 2008.
