Possible Sony VAIO Netbook Photo Appears on FCC
A photo of a small Sony VAIO on the FCC website indicates the first Sony netbook may be on it’s way.
Sony, previously known as the Scrooge of the netbook world, reluctantly announced in September that it would be entering the netbook market out of necessity: “Sony has to participate because consumers are our core competency. We have to participate.”
It appears that Sony’s first netbook, a VAIO with WWAN, has appeared on the FCC website.
The picture shows the bottom of a very small black VAIO. Not much is known about this device, and it’s officially listed as a ‘notebook PC’ by the FCC.
The model numbers are PCG-1P1L and PCG-1P2L, which indicates the device is a VAIO. Tests were performed for Bluetooth, EVDO, HSPA, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. According to the FCC docs, the device dimensions are approx. 9.5″ x 4.5″. There’s a mention of a Windows label, so it’s safe to assume the device will come loaded with Windows XP
