Sony's up and coming VAIO X series will have a record low weight, thin chassis and long battery life.
The new VAIO X series notebook, which Sony recently debuted a prototype of at its IFA keynote, will be an 11.1" notebook with some extremely portable specs. The core construction material will be carbon fiber, rather than heavier aluminum or bulkier plastics, resulting in an impressive overall weight of 1.5lbs and maximum thickness of just half an inch. Final specs aren't certain yet, but it is expected to run on an Intel Atom CPU, which perhaps explains how Sony is able to claim that it will have exceptional battery life as well. The size and weight of this notebook blows netbooks out of the water for portability - but you can probably expect the price to do so as well. Availability is uncertain, but it won't ship at least until the Windows 7 debut in October.
