September 16, 2009 at 09:09:49 AM, by Daniel Shain
This latest offering from VIA is sized like a netbook but ought to be able to play HD just like a notebook. Whether this makes you want to call the category NetNote or not, the laptops should pack a good punch in a little package.
The new NetNote family will have sizes between 10.2" and 12.1" and "support for flawless playback of high bit-rate 1080p HD video," according to the press release. They will make use of the VIA VX855 media system processor and either the VIA C7-M ULV or the VIA Nano CPU. The SurfBoards will be able to support video standards such as H.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1 and WMV9, and come with such standard netbook fare as long battery life, lightweight design and optional integrated 3G. HDMI will also be an option so that you can make better use of that touted 1080p capability.
