10 Geeky Pranks to Play on Your Colleagues. Ah, the office pranks. Some consider it a right of passage. Some consider it an acceptable passive aggressive action against someone you don't like. Others just think they're funny.
No matter which category you fall into, sometimes you've just gotta pull an office prank. Below are 10 great geeky office pranks you can pull against your colleagues. Some of these are classics whose origins have long been lost into the ether of the Internet archives. Others are variations of popular tricks, while others are just devilishly simple yet profoundly startling pranks.
1. Fake Virus
This will probably only work on your less-than-literate computer workmates, but fakes viruses always generate laughs. The best ones aren't so obvious that they appear fake (such as the bright flashy alerts), but they need to be apparent enough that the user will see them.
If you're looking for a way to simulate a virus but you don't already know how, here
are a few interesting tricks.2. Dusty Phone Lines
This prank relies on having less-than-intelligent individuals at your workplace, but it (and variations of it) have been reported as successfully accomplished before, so you just might have a chance.
The prank, you ask? Simple. Tell someone such as the receptionist that the phone company will be coming later to blow hot air through the phone lines in order to get the dust out of them (so calls don't crackle, if they ask). Instruct said individual to tell everyone to be off the phone by X time (make sure its a short time frame for funnier effect).
3. Tape on the Phone Receiver
This works best with shiny plastic phones. Take tape--the clearest and most flexible that you can get--and slowly over the course of a week, add more and more strips of tape over the receiver of a coworkers telephone. At first their voice will only be muffled, so they will speak louder, but eventually it will be so hard for other people to hear them that they'll be screaming.
4. Stolen Car
Swipe your coworkers keys, take their car, then park it on the opposite side of the lot. Then take a glass bottle and smash it on the pavement under the spot where the car window would have been (with permission, of course). Once finished, be sure to clean up the glass.
5. Packing Popcorn Cubicle
This one is simple--wrap your mates cubicle in plastic wrap so that only the top is open, then fill the inside with packing popcorn. It will take hours to clean, and be quite difficult to empty.
6. Glitter on the Keyboard
This prank often leads to much frustration and irritation, so only do it to someone you don't like. Sprinkle a small amount of glitter over your target's keyboard. Once they start typing, the glitter will stick to their hands, then be transferred to their mouse, cell phone, stapler, monitor. Once they realize what happened, they'll most likely have glitter all over their face and clothes, making them sparkle like Edward.
7. Plastic Wrapped Mouse
This prank takes careful planning to pull off, because if you do a poor job, the plastic will tear off on its own. Also, this prank works best with laser mouses. Glue or tape plastic wrap very tightly over the bottom of someone's mouse. When they start using it, the mouse will work a little, but will mostly be sporadic and jerky. If you do your job well, they'll remove the batteries and jingle the cord and maybe even fetch a new mouse before realizing what happened.
8. Aluminum Foil Everything
This prank will takes a huge amount of time, so you may want to reserve this prank for someone you like, and do it on a weekend when few people are around. Using cheap, thin tin foil, wrap every single item within your target's office/cubicle. Before wrapping the computers, make sure they are completely shut down or they will overheat and be destroyed. Also, don't wrap bulbs or exposed metal with an electrical current (things that should be obvious, but sadly are not).
9. Umbrella Full of LEGO's
Or any other small object you can think of. On a rainy day, sneak a worker's umbrella out of its bin and pour LEGOs inside it. Once finished, carefully strap the bottom and put it back. Don't put so much that its bulging, or it will be obvious before the person opens it.
10. Stapler Full of Jello
Take a strip of staples, turn them upside down, and fill with Jello. Place this strip in the freezer so that it gels, then cut the ends even so that you can't see the Jello, then place it inside a workers stapler. When they staple something, a small splotch of Jello will mar the paper, but when the person opens their stapler, all they will see is a normal strip of staples. This will lead them to believe that something had been on the outside of the stapler, so they will wipe it and then staple agai, leading to their continued frustration.
