Headsets come in all shapes and sizes, and the sound quality in different headsets may vary dramatically.
A headset is pretty neat to have, for use with VoIP services such as Skype. That way it could actually save you money to get a headset if you can avoid steep expenses on long-distance and international calls. If the sound quality is good enough, it can also double as a pair of headphones when you listen to music, watch movies and play games on your laptop.
