Apple's revolutionary touch screen iPhone at Laptop Logic.

Apple iPhone

After the long and repetitive hype, the Apple iPhone finally arrives. If you didn't know, tech geeks camped and waited in long lines at AT&T andApple stores across the nationto to purchase this overly expensive phone. But it's not any regular overly expensivephone as you would expect. We too ended buying one at the local Apple store. Only difference was we didn't camp or wait in long lines-instead I walked to a nearby Apple Store andwalked outwith one within 10 minutes. So we're going to skip the BS and tell you up front this phone rocks! But it's not for everyone just like withanything else.

On with the unboxing gallery!

How kewt! It came with a pretty little shopping bag.

The packaging at it's finest. Inside the box: earphones, dock, USB cable, USB charger, cleaning cloth, manual.

Tuh Duh! The iPhone awaiting to be activatedand used. Maybe abused too.

iPhone 2

Sleek, reflective and a work of art. Measuring 4.5-inch (H) by 2.4" (W) and only .46-inch thick. It weighs 4.8 ounces, which is just a tad bitheavier than the Samsung BlackJack.

On the backside, there's an engraved Apple logoand the 2.0-Megapixel Camera is on the upper left corner.

Only .46-inch thick, which is almost the same thickness as the BlackJack!

At the bottom you will find stereo speakers for music, video, and speakerphone. And of course the dock connector (docking station included).

iPhone 3

iPhone compared to the LG Shine Slider Mobile Phone. Despite its relatively large size, the iPhone fits nicely inside my jean pocket.

iPhone compared again to the LG Shine, this time the Shine slides open. Which one is hotter?

The iPhone automatically detects local WiFi 802.11b/g networks and asks to select a Wi-Fi network. When connected to WiFi, you can surf the Web, check Email and stream YouTube movies faster than using the EDGE network.

SMS Text Messaging looks identical to Apple iChat from Mac OS X. It keeps the conversation organized with the same person you've been texting.

iPhone 4

The touch keyboard actually feels great to type. After two2 days, I'm able to type pretty fast. As you can see, when you tap on a letter, it enlarges to show you the key you've tapped. The keyboard also can help you spell out and suggests words to greatly increase typing speed.

How many times do you drive around and can't find that damn restaurant or need to call your dentist to inform him you'll be late? Thanks to the iPhone, it loads Google Maps. You can search nearby businesses, get driving directions and even check traffic reports!

YouTube. The most popular online video sharing website ever is now available directly on the iPhone. Select from featured and most viewed videos with a simple tap.

Believe it or not, the EDGE network streams YouTube videos pretty smoothly! But there is a little wait when it loads up the video. 3G will take care of that (iPhone 2?). Even cooler, when you watch a movie, you can rotate the iPhone to a flat 16:9 widescreen view.

The good old fashion keypad. It's a simple as a touch. The visual voicemail is also neat. You can see a list of all your voicemails and select the one you want to listen. No more listening to ALL your voicemails.

Conclusion

There you have it. The AppleiPhone. After using it for few days, I'm utterly impressed with its features, ease of use, and of course the sleek design. I truly love the ability to check my Email and surf the Web from anywhere. And the added ability to connect to a Wi-Fi network is a major plus when the extra speed is desired over the EDGE network. Here's a quick breakdown of what I like and what I don't like about it:

What I like:

  • Surf the Web, get driving directions, check weather, check Email, and watch YouTube from anyhwere
  • Simple touch screen interface
  • Long battery life
  • Plays music and videos
  • Organize notes and calender
  • Connects seamlessly with iTunes to easily organize music and videos from your PC to iPhone
  • Text messaging is organized, simple, and fun
  • Mac OS X interface is beautiful and best of all: EASY

What I don't like:

  • It's locked. AT&T only folks. However, in time someone will be able to unlock this phone.
  • Expensive. Requires data plan on top of your base calling plan. Plus, it's NOT compatible with any employer monthly discounts.
  • 2.0-Megapixel camera sucks. The LG Shine is better. Plus, you can't even record videos.
  • No AIM/iChat, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, or Google Talk (yet).
  • No 3G. Although EDGE is sufficient, there are times when the Internet does load slow. At times, it's not so bad. But still, 3G is available, why not utilize it?

Here isa quick breakdown of the specs:

  • 3.5-inch widescreen multi-touch display (480x320 resolution/160dpi)
  • Mac OS X Operating System
  • Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11bg
  • EDGE
  • Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
  • 2.0-Megapixel Camera
  • Plays video, audio, andWeb Browser

Get one from Apple Storefor $499 (4GB) and $599 (8GB).
