January 07, 2008 at 01:50:00 PM, by Rating: 5 out of 5

The First Part of our coverage for the first "official" day of CES 2008.

CES 2008
Day 1 : Part 1

It's a big day, and a big event here in Las Vegas, where, in case you haven't been following along- is the convention for the Consumer Electronics Show 2008: The LARGEST electronics expo in the world. When we say Largest, we mean you better have a good pair of jogging shoes to make it to see HALF the stuff lined up from the largest electronics manufacturers around the globe.

We've gathered a lot of pictures from the event, but we'd thought we'd share a few pictures of some cool items we got a chance to get up close and personal with.

First up is the new Dragon from HP - this 20.1" widescreen FULL HD capable (1920x1200) dual backlit display carries up to 4gb of ram, a 512mb DDR3 nVidia 8800m GTS graphics card, and the latest 45nm T9000 series dual core Intel processors.

Next up from HP is their new TX2000 and DV2700 lineup. The TX2000 which is both an Active and Resistive Digitizer, which is a significant improvement over the last models which only had Resistive. Active provides better handwritting recognition, and means you can use the included specialized stylus for better control, and not worry about your hand messing up your precious John H.

The DV2700 is a collaboration with MTV and HP for a artist contest - which was won by a design studentfrom Portugal.

It also can come with a stylish messenger bag in the same design.

Next we moved along to Dell's area, to see what they had to showcase, most importantly the new CRYSTAL display that we just reported on, and the true 16:9 XPS concept laptop.

Yes, it's that thin - Iphone vs. The new CRYSTAL display from Dell

It Features a full HD display, and a true 16:9 display ratio- no more black bars for movies!

No word yet on specs nor backlighting (LED?) as it was behind the shiny glass BOX.

Creative had somenice displays...they also win our awards for best CES outfit. Showcasing their new Zen 32gb and the inPerson portable video comunication system.

Nokia had a really nice concept phone on display. They were under devolpement - but the gist is you could customize your components on the phone, only adding what you need. It comprises of a wrist and small regular "phone". It looked awesome.

We'll be reporting more soon!
