Day Two: another hall, another great showcase of awesome technology

CES 2008 Day Two

Day Two of the gigantic expedition turned out to be a great show. We followed the central hall this time to gather some of the hottest products from the big boys like Microsoft, Motorola, Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony. We have a lot of pictures in this one, so stay focused! First up, we havea special one-on-one meeting with the Lenovo group, showcasing a hot new laptop that we can't say anything about yet...also their new IdeaPad design.

This is their new 11" widescreen ultraportable Ideapad. It features a striking glossy surface and flush trackpad design.

More than enough ample connecitons on the side, include mini firewire, expresscard, usb 2.0 and a MMC reader.

Perhaps the most striking feature would be the LCD lid - which comes in 3 amazing colors, one of which is shown in here in a beautiful RED texture.

Shown here is the "non" gamer edition of the 17" IdeaPad, the gamer edition would feature a small LCD replacing the numeric pad.

A larger view of the 17" IdeaPad from Lenovo. Notice the flush and thin bezel around the LCD - we likey. Overall, very impressive for their first introduction into the "consumer" level of notebook and laptops.

After this meeting and a heated discussion about what consumers really want in a ultraportable - we decided to head to the greater halls to visit our friends at Motorola to see the latest and greatest phone offerings.

Moto E8 Rokr features touch sensitive illuminated keypad, and a jog dial in the center to control menu and volume.

The E6 Rokr features nearly the same elements, only in a more compact "slider' form, and no jog dial.Big notice on theTOUCHSCREEN however.

But the showstopper seemed to be the new Z10 flip-slant phone. The features speak highly of it, however, we weren't sure if the "slant" was a necessary part of the design, or just something that will jack up the price (as it was hard to close one-handed)

ATTACK OF THE SLANT!

We like the clean layout, more so the nice vibrant screen and microphone area. It looks very classy.

Auto-focus with a 3.2mp lens - all wrapped in a shiny aluminum casing.

Next up, we just had to go to the Samsung booth to check out what they were offering as far as competition.

And of course, the dual flip sch-u70 was on display. This was one of the only US models that seemed relevant to picture. Otherwise, it seemed everyone accross the pond was getting way sweeter phones.

Double flip =flip up, or flip out!

The mobile phone area seemed to be on the low key, but we did see an interesting monitor design, coming from the 971P. C Shaped base stand with illuminated endcap. It was pretty sweet actually.

Touch screen PMP YP-P2 - it has bluetooth on this baby! Yeah!

Next we hit the panasonic booth, and we were greeted by the AMAZING 150" Plasma display. World's Largest (which I'm sure will be toppled next week) but still, pictures do not do justice for this display.

And not that it matters, but I would NOT want to see the electric bill with this in your house...estate? But if you could afford this...
I'm sure that would be the LAST thing on your mind.

Panasonic had their Strada GPS lineup showcased as well, look out! Here they come!

Next, we decided to hit the Sony "area". Not just a booth, and way more crowded than a stage, this was dominated by the public, it was almost suffocating. And why not? They had some of the coolest phones, displays, and performances rocking the house. Natasha Bedingfield - the hot lil' blonde gloriously graced our eyes, and ears. More our eyes, but we give her credit for the ear sake as well.

That amazing 27" OLED LCD HD display was shown, and yes, it was AMAZING.

In the background, the 27" OLED from Sony, in the foreground, the Apple Iphone. Yes, we like it thin, and this doesn't dissapoint.

Look at 'em all! Mini OLED HD displays! We love the 'lil buggers!

Unfortunately, we're not sure what Toshiba has in store for their HD-DVD lineup, as it looks like Blu-Ray will be the successful winner, however, they did have some sweet new 52" 1080P 120hz LCD's featuring an amazing thin bezel design. These are still in the proto-type stages (nearing completion) but we liked what we saw.

Note the model number...and we doubt you will find it available yet ;)

Next up, was a visit to Asus where they were showcasing some of their newest laptop designs. Word on the street says the new EeePC (which was not on show, at least to us) will be avaiable sometime near May. We can't give out any specs, but they said it will be larger, or at least parts of it will be.

The touchpad on the new M50sV

And that concluded our day two lineup. We went in depth more so with the mobile phones from Sony Ericson, but we'll report on those as soon as we all get back to our offices. One of our editors computers took a spill and lost a display - what perfect timing huh? Don't see enough pictures?
