How to Crack a Window's Password in 5 Minutes
February 11, 2009 at 06:02:15 AM, by Blair Mathis
There are a number of reasons for needing to crack a Windows password: simply forgetting what the password is, working on a used computer, etc. No matter your reason for needing to, finding a Windows password is generally simple, and can be done in a very short period of time.
Items Needed:
- Blank CD
- Ophcrack
To find the Window's password, you'll need a program called Ophcrack. It is completely free, and works very well. Ophcrack is not really a program--it is a LiveCD that is burned to a blank CD (or a USB flash drive if using on a newer computer) and runs rainbow tables on a Slackware base.
Installing
Navigate to the official Ophcrack website at http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ -- download the Live CD ISO and save it to your computer. Once it is downloaded, you will need to burn the disc image to a blank CD. The software used will vary--if your system doesn't have burning software already installed, you can download a trial of Nero, or something free like ImgBurn. Burn it at a low speed.
Using
To use the software, insert the CD into the optical drive on the computer you wish to gain access to and hold the power button until it shuts down. Turn it back on and when the compute logo appears, press the button for the system to enter BIOS. Change the boot sequence to CD first, then Save and Exit BIOS.
The Live CD will start and the rainbow tables will automatically start working at the password. For the average users password, it will likely take about five seconds to crack. For a longer alphanumeric password, it could take a few minutes, but that is the exception, not the rule.
Once it finds the password, write it down somewhere, then remove the CD and restart the system. Enter the password at login and then change/remove it to whatever you would like
.Note: Common sense says that this should only be used on computers you are authorized to gain access to. If you use this to find the password to a computer that is not your, it is illegal. This article is for informational purposes only.

LCP5 allows you to crack ANY password up to 14 Characters, including special letters (!"£?@~). Dump the SAM, then just let it run away. You can even alter the character set you want to use...

Well if you're only trying to crack a Windows login password...there is a much easier way... ...ever try going into Safe Mode then making a new administrator account?

I have some experience with this program and it doesn't work nearly as well as this article seems to suggest. It took ophcrack ~5mins to crack my 7 digit alphanumeric password and it couldn't crack my 10 digit bank password. The worst part is that it takes about 20mins of waiting if it can't crack the password. But the fact that it can be run from a usb stick makes it pretty awesome nonetheless.

I think the main thing to remember is that GIMP isn't trying to replace or copy Photoshop. GIMP is a high-end photography manipulation and digital art tool. It's not aimed at creating print work and it's not a graphic design tool either, so many of the decisions about GIMP are strategic. these methods are not useful for all these u need to have access to the computer and this is not possible in most cases if you have the access to the computers then why we need to crack the password their are some other methods also that can be used to find important information

2 things wrong with this. 1, if you use a special character rainbow tables are useless, and you will be sat there for a very long time. 2, this would work for *any* system, one-way encrypted passwords are only as strong as the passwords themselves.
fidge at 00:01, February 15, 2009
This program only cracks simple paswords. As soon as you type anything like *#(){} etc in your password this thing won't crack it

Does this crack the BIOS password? I once had a laptop that had its BIOS password written to an unknown value when the hard drive was swapped (a really dumb Toshiba security trick). If so, this could be very useful. If not, then meh...
Dan at 23:18, February 12, 2009
I'm not sure if this works on Vista, but I imagine it would. Other password recovery tools I have used have worked equally well on XP/Vista.
jch at 20:57, February 12, 2009
I think this is only good for Windows XP. The password encryption algorithm in Vista is stronger.
D. Brown at 14:21, February 12, 2009
This is all very well and good, and it indeed could be used to start up my computer... ...But do you have a program that will find and log in the 12 digit code that initiates the detonator in the four ounces of C-4 hidden inside my computer case? ;-)
bobsyeruncle at 06:12, February 12, 2009
Just goes to prove that the number one security step for ANY computer is physical security. If a person can get to the physical box, they CAN access your data.
simon at 03:39, February 12, 2009
this works for OSX and unbuntu as well people - keep in mind all you need to change the password in OSX is an install disc and then just stick it in, and change password. now if that's "too user" friendly then I don't know what is...

@Anna C Who uses windows these days? Fucking 85% of computer users, that's who. jesus christ...
Anna C at 21:51, February 11, 2009
This so seems like old news...who would even use Windows these days. Microsoft sucks.
lunkan at 21:07, February 11, 2009
Yes windows is scary some times. A tip for enhancing the strength of you passwords is to use characters specific to your language. ( öäå if you are a swede eg.). This helps somewhat, sice the standard Rainbow tables you can download often tend to only use US-charset.
Andrew at 19:13, February 11, 2009
Scary. Another reason to change to osx or ubuntu.
