Student Laptop Buying Guide

Students are usually on a tight budget, but still need a laptop that can handle a reasonably heavy workload and be comfortable to work with for long periods.
Fortunately, laptop prices have dropped considerably in the last few years making it possible to find a highly capable laptop even below the $500 mark.
Netbook or Desktop Replacement?
Step one is figuring out what size you need – 15 inches is where the volume is and also where you’ll find the most value. Larger laptops are difficult to carry around, which is one of the reasons for buying a laptop, and smaller ultraportable laptops are usually more expensive. Netbooks are an exception to the last rule, but a problem with netbooks is the lack of processing power and the tiny keyboard and screen.
Laptops around 15 inches in size have the advantages of being equipped with standard notebook components, which are much more powerful than low-power versions, while remaining reasonably portable. Some retailers and manufacturers offer discounts to students, so make sure to check if they have any student specials before you buy.
