February 04, 2009 at 09:02:12 PM, by Travis Simon Rating: 5 out of 5

Everyone loves a good reason to get their tech gear on the road, here's our list of some Top 10 items we'd make sure to look at on our next big adventure.

Today I bring to you the ultimate top ten mobile essentials. This is a compilation of gizmos that will fulfill all of your on-the-go tech needs. Whether your pounding the pavement on the mean streets of New York or taking a leisurely stroll through the Wi-Fi ready cornfields of the heartland. You don’t have to be Warren Buffet to assemble the majority of these gadget goodies, but it would definitely be helpful and you’d also be a billionaire, so that’s pretty neat.

Laptop / Phone
Samsung x630

Weighing in at a minute 2.8 pounds, this fully featured highly capable, featherweight laptop even beats out the MacBook Air in the weight category. The Samsung x630 runs Windows on the Intel Centrino 2 platform and has a 13.3-inch glossy screen, which is the perfect size for portability and getting work done on the go. With the 120 GB solid state drive you could just about run a marathon with this lappy without the slightest fear of hurting it.

T-Mobile G1

The G1 is a perfect phone for those on the move, as it can do just about anything a laptop can and maybe more. The sound quality on the phone is quite clean, has a beautiful 320 x 480 LCD screen, and the phone is incredibly simple to use. The G1 is perfect for the impromptu picture session with its 3.2 megapixels camera, and the full keyboard makes texting and emailing a breeze. The G1 is without a doubt an indispensable gadget on-the-go.

Jabra JX20

Not only will you be able have clean and crisp calls, but the JX20 Pura will turn heads with its beautiful titanium and black gloss accents. The devices specs are pretty impressive with a six-hour talk time and 8.3 days of standby you can go camping and not have to worry about charging you nifty little headset. With a weight of only .5 ounces, the Jabra JX20 can go wherever you go.

Audio

SanDisk Sansa e260

SanDisk, primarily known for their memory cards and flash drives have really outdone themselves with the creation of the Sansa e260. The unit holds up to 4GB of music, videos, and photos. The Sansa e260 is tough competition for the iPod Nano and with its bargain base price; it’s a tough choice. The unit may be twice as thick as the Nano, but still highly portable and even sports a minimally larger screen than the Nano. For all intensive purposes if you’re hoofing it the Sansa e260 is the way to go with easy to use interface and lightning quick upload time.

Jaybird JB-200

If you’re going to listen to headphones, why not listen to the best - and wirelessly! And, the best is the Jaybird JB-200, with 5.5 hours of music listening time and 110 hours in standby mode. The unit is perfect for on the go and has a small wire that runs behind your head and connects to each earpiece sitting atop each respective ear. The fact that the full .1 lbs of equipment sits on your ears may sound uncomfortable, but the weight of the device is equally distributed between each ear. The unit is made for running and other exercise-based activities, and the unit will stay with you through almost anything. The Jaybird Gear headphones have two adapters: an iPod and an audio jack adapter, each sold separately. Both adapters work great, and the range is a seemingly standard 33 feet.

Navigation
Suunto X10

Nothing beats a trusty co-pilot, except, maybe one on your wrist. With the Suunto X10 never fear being lost again, as the X10 boasts a built in GPS system. The X10 will not only help you find your way home, but it can also tell you the sunrise/sunset, barometric pressure and your current altitude. The X10 will help you get where you need to go and back again in style.

Protection without a License...

The WASP Injector Knife

In this day and age you have to be prepared for just about anything. So, why not carry around a 5-inch long knife with a hidden CO2 canister that injects compressed gas into whatever the knives blade has found its way into. The CO2 canister can inject upwards of 800psi instantaneously, which will kill just about anything. So, next those lions break out of the zoo, you’ll be ready (who knows it could happen). Just don’t try and bring it on your next flight…wow, just thinking about that makes me shudder…

no way man the sansa sucks. i got the e280 and you cant delete anything without formatting it. not even one song. on top of that, the screen has a bad res and the interface is just plain terrible. the phone, bluetooth, laptop, and knife however are very nice and i do plan on acquiring those.
