Acer Aspire 5535 Notebook - Short Review

Acer Aspire 5535 Notebook is a mid-range laptop well suited for home and business users. It is probably one of the cheapest portable computers with such numerous extras and features.

It packs decent computing power with 2.1GHz Athlon X2-processor and 2GB of RAM. It also has a fair amount of storage space with a drive capacity of 250GB. It's a Serial ATA drive spinning at 5400 rpm.

This Notebook comes with a DVD-RW optical drive as well as a full range of connectivity options through its built in Wireless LAN and Ethernet with an RJ 45 connector.

Strongest Features

The Acer's RAM can be upgraded to 4GB, so if you need more versatility simply add another 2GB to the package. It also comes with a built-in webcam and a high performance audio speaker system.

The screen is crisp and capable of displaying vivid colors in widescreen 16:9 ratio, this laptop can easily become your personal multi media entertainment system. It also has multiple ports and expandability suites such as the 3 high speed USB ports, 5-in-1 card reader, Express card 54 and VGA port. The Acer Aspire 5535 therefore is custom built for those who need a reliable machine for out of office computing.

Drawbacks

The 5535 does not have a dedicated graphics card. It uses an integrated Mobility Radeon HD 3200 that shares RAM with the system, so this laptop is not suitable for gaming although it's better than Intel's GMA series. Loading a modern 3D game might trigger performance problems, although you can play less demanding and older games.

The keyboard and touch pad are also difficult to use because they are a bit squashed-in. It comes pre- installed with Windows Vista Home Basic but the problem is you may need to upgrade immediately to get the full features of the Premium edition. It also does not have driver support for XP so you will have to install everything manually if you want to downgrade your OS.

Tech words explained

"Ultraportable"
This is the smallest and lightest version of the laptop. The overall focus of this laptop is having a light weight (less than 5lb), around 1" thick or less, with 9" to 12" displays. Due to the cost of making components smaller and fitting them into tighter spaces, the price is usually more expensive, ranging from $1000 for a very basic machine to $2000+ for mid-range features. Although the Ultraportable has respectable standard performance, it is usually inadequate for any graphics-intensive programs, due to the common use of Integrated Graphics. Ultraportables usually have longer battery life (~5+ hours) due to the common usage of lower voltage processors. Other than the smaller screen and integrated graphics, the other major tradeoff usually found with Ultraportables is a lack of an optical drive. These are usually not built into the laptop to save space and weight, but instead are often provided as an external option. Ultraportables are intended for highly mobile users who need basic computing power with ultimate portability.
