Short Review: What to Make of the Aspire AS4520-5141
The Acer Aspire AS 4520-5141 laptop has been around for quite some time, but it still might have a few tricks left up its sleeve. And in order to know if such is true, only an extensive review will be able to reveal the real deal.
Aesthetics
To say that Acer did not make styling a priority on this one is an understatement. Acer decided to play it safe with the Acer Aspire AS 4520-5141 by sticking to the run of the mill Acer styling of black shell design on the outside and matte off-white styling on the inside. The outside is perfectly fine with its understated look, but the interior poses some concerns. The major concern about the inside is that if you have an off-white interior everything will end up looking dirtier than it actually is in a short amount of time. Second, the matte off-white shade on the interior is actually, upon closer inspection, on the gray side. This is pretty much of a turn off because when you have this on your laptop it is actually unattractive.
Speed
Acer equips the Acer Aspire AS 4520-5141 with a Celeron 550 processor and 1 GB of RAM. In the olden days this might have been pretty snappy but in today’s contemporary times it is almost snail’s pace. This might be debatable though because it will depend on who is saying what. On the average, it is not slow but not fast either. With a Celeron processor do not expect snappy computing at your fingertips especially when you pair it up with a 1 GB RAM. To run bigger programs such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel or any other graphics-heavy RPG games will require at least 2 GB of RAM. But if you just want simple games and programs then you may be safe with the 1 GB of RAM that comes on-board (just upgrade it to 2 GB if you need to).
Space
The Acer Aspire AS 4520-5141 comes with 120 GB of space. In this day and age where netbooks reign supreme, 120 GB is just… well, fairly basic Still, it is a relief to note that at least Acer decided to put 120 GB on a Celeron-run machine instead of the old 60 or 80 GB. You still have enough space to put MP3s, videos, a few games and some simple software without overly clogging the drive.
Screen
The screen of the Acer Aspire AS 4520-5141 is just 15.4 inches worth of so-so. There really is not much to say about this expect that at the very least it is not less than what you would expect from a Celeron notebook. Simply put, it gets the job done but do not expect to get more out of it.
