Short Review: Asus Eee PC 1000HA: A Ten Inch Winner

In the netbook category of mobile computing, Asus takes it one level higher with the introduction of the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook. Suddenly, everybody is talking about ten inches and have completely forgotten the 8.9 inch market. And with the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook, it looks like other companies are up for some competition.

Size

The Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook is a ten inch netbook that is slightly bigger than the MSI Wind which is also another ten incher in the market. Putting the two units side by side will reveal that the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook has a lid that is a bit higher than the Wind. The Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook has a beautiful glossy black lid that has EEEpc stamped onto one corner of it. Opening it reveals an all-black interior in matte black. What is quite noticeable though is the grey frame of the track pad. For an all-black look this is quite distracting although the purpose of this might actually be for the user to identify up to where he can use the track pad. Mouse clicks are noticeable loud although the keyboard is nice and quiet. There is minimum keyboard flex on this device and it is not hot at all, which is good.

Resolution

The ten inch n Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook has pretty good resolution – actually a lot better compared to other ten inch netbooks out on the market. Again, a side by side test was necessary to prove this and comparing it to its main competitor the MSI Wind U100x it reveals that the latter has a brighter screen even at similar settings. Working on your documents and even watching videos is a breeze because you no longer need to side scroll and the screen is relatively crisp.

Audio-wise, the built in speakers of the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook is quite impressive. It is not tinny but the sound is not as whole as compared to bigger laptops that also have its own built-in subwoofers. But for a netbook, the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook has one of the best sounds around even when you crank up the volume.

Computing Power

This where the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook wins. It comes with the netbook-specific Intel Atom B270 1.6 GHz processor which was formerly known as Diamondville. With 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM you get fast boot up times of around thirty seconds till you get to your desktop screen. If you want to make it faster, you can then upgrade it to 2 GB maximum. The Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook operates on a Windows XP platform which is very well suited to netbooks of this specification. This is indeed a better choice compared to using Vista Basic which is too demanding for this type of computer. Even better, the Asus Eee PC 1000HA netbook comes with 160 GB of hard disk space – which is a lot for netbooks. With six cells of battery you get around 3.5 hours unplugged.
