Short Review: Asus N81Vp-C1 Notebook: Stylish and Powerful Computing

If thin and light is your thing, you might want to take a closer look at the Asus N81Vp-C1 notebook. This is Asus’ best bet in the stylish, thin and light category that does not scrimp on performance. Thanks to the Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2.66 GHz and its 7200 RPM hard drive, coupled with a Radeon HD 4650 graphics processor you have a great notebook that is small but packs a wallop.

First off, it is quite rare for one to find one entire gigabyte that is dedicated to video memory alone for this category – thin and light and checking in at 5.6 pounds. At around one thousand and three hundred dollars, the fourteen inch Asus N81Vp-C1 notebook is a system that is said to be one of the best for power users who do not want to lug around a heavy load.

Aesthetics and Connectivity

The Asus N81Vp-C1 notebook sports a scratch-resistant lid as well as hinges in glossy piano black. All over this surface you will find a subtle pattern of raindrops that is reminiscent of the code in the Matrix, which adds to its sleek, stylish and luxuriously technological look. Around the display is a black bezel, also glossy and quite prone to smudges and fingertips (some cleaning required as well as for the lid).

The dimensions of the Asus N81Vp-C1 notebook measures 13.5 x 10.1 x 1.4 inches, so it might not be as slim as other fourteen inchers out there. But with the millimeters that were added come additional ports for connectivity. It has two USB ports on the right, an IR port in the middle, one USB port/Express Card slot/FireWire and eight in one memory card reader on the other side. This part also houses the 8x DVD-RW drive. There are also two more USB ports in the back (for a total of five… count ‘em, five!) an eSATA, VGA, HDMI, modem and Ethernet ports, too. There is no way that you can say this system is not well connected at all.

Typing

The keyboard’s got nothing to boast about, except for fairly decent feedback and roomy palm rest. Some flex might be experienced with the matte-finished black keys, too. The touchpad is quite spacious and comes with a scroll strip on the side which will let you maneuver the curser quite easily. Basically, the track pad is very responsive and is not prone to gliding and access to the short cut keys above the keyboard is highly appreciated (you have power settings, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and video settings on the quick launch short cut keys). Overall buttons are quite responsive and glows a cozy light blue when it has been activated.

This fourteen inch Asus N81Vp-C1 notebook is a powerful device that allows you to do as much as you want almost anywhere you would want to. For the specifications, it’s a-little-above-a-thousand-dollars price tag is fairly inexpensive and performs well in both basic computing and graphics-heavy tasks. While the display is not very boast-worthy, rest assured it won’t give you headache when you view it.
