Short Review: Style and Function with the Asus Eee PC S101 Netbook
Since netbooks are a-plenty nowadays, it can be hard to figure out what makes one better than the other in terms of looks and functionality. In order to address this issue, Asian computer manufacturer Asus released the Eee PC S101 that takes the best from the netbook and gives it better clothes (chassis) to wear so it looks like it can hobnob with the higher end ultraportable devices.
Price Points
At its introduction, the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook is at the six hundred dollar price range – making it well above the usual budget price range of netbooks. But if you compare it to other laptops with similar styling (brushed aluminum and super thin body) it certainly looks like a really great deal. In sum, the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook is a stylish buddy that packs more punch than a plastic bodied netbook and makes for a great alternative.
One Thing to Note
It really is not a perfect world, and in this sense the singular flaw one might find in the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook is more superficial and leans towards the aesthetic. That is, the right Shift key has been on the chopping block and was hacked to a smaller size. If you are a touch typist, you will definitely find this annoying especially since its keyboard is decently balanced out so typing is a comfortable task. But once you need that right shift key, your comfort ends and there is a big chance that you might end up hitting the up arrow button instead.
Styling
The Asus Eee PC S101 netbook is just a little less than an inch in thickness, which automatically places it in the category of ultrathin ultra-portables. It has a wrist rest covered in brushed metal and there is very little keyboard flex. Its spacious (for a netbook, that is) 10.2 inch LCD in widescreen display with 1024 x 600 native resolution (a standard size for netbooks). In terms of ports and connections everything is pretty basic. There is Bluetooth though, which is a big plus in the netbook category so you can have phone tethering to accommodate a mobile broadband connection.
Computing
The Asus Eee PC S101 netbook comes with an Intel Atom CPU. It is single core and has 1.6 GHz which is all good for your basic computing needs while being on the go. For as long as you maintain modest expectations and not treat the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook as a main axe. Perhaps what contributes to its computing power would be the amazing battery life. there are a lot of impressive scores for Asus netbooks, but this model, considering it is an ultrathin ultraportable, has four hours and five minutes worth of time to work with. Since portability and functionality are important, you can work with Asus Eee PC S101 netbook for long periods of time without needing to look for a wall socket. Simply put, if you put a primer on looks and reliable computing power then the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook just might be the stylish netbook for you.
