Innovative Styling with the Dell Latitude XT2 - Short Review

Dell makes waves once again with another model in the Dell Latitude XT line, the XT2 laptop computer. The series was introduced during the first quarter of the year 2008 with warm reception. With a few tweaks here and there, the XT2 was able to prove itself as a worthy replacement for its predecessor, the XT.

Main Highlights

One of the most well-loved features of the XT is the N-trig capacitive touch technology, which can also be seen in the later XT2 model. For those not in the know, the N-trig technology meant more options for finger manipulation on the touch screen which is downloadable on the Dell website. With the N-trig capacitive touch technology on the Latitude XT2 laptop, you can pinch, scroll and tap your way through on the tablet pc – similar to what you can do on Apple’s iPhone mobile phone. Dell extends this feature a bit with the addition of the Duo Sense technology on the N-trig. This simply combines capacitive touch and the pen option, as well as a two-finger rotating option.

Hardware Features

The Latitude XT2 also comes with updates on the processor. It now runs on the 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo SU9300. Another option is the 1.4GHz Core 2Duo SU 9400. This is a significant upgrade from the 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo U7600 on the earlier model, and it definitely shows. Test runs show that performance was significantly boosted. Furthermore, this new chip can also support the vPro technology of Intel. With this, the XT2 enjoys an improved remote management and security layer than most tablets on the market.

Battery Life

With tablet computers, battery life is always a concern. The Dell Latitude XT2 comes with the Thermal Design Power that allows operation to a low ten watts. This simply means that you get better battery life when away from your power cord. It is also environmentally friendly as well, so you get to do your share in energy conservation without sacrificing your laptop’s performance. For a four cell battery, this is quite impressive as most extended battery features are found in the usual 6-cell battery offerings.

A Looker You Can Carry Around

The Latitude Xt2 is an easy to tote machine. Its dimensions measure 11.7 x 8.7 inches and is only a little bit over an inch in thickness. With 3.6 pounds including the 4-cell battery already, it is not a problem to bring this baby to the nearest coffee shop or commuting to work with it. the display measures widescreen dimensions of 12.1 inches and has the 1280.800 pixel format. Those who want to use their Latitude XT2 will like the fact that it comes with a daylight-viewable version as well. This means you no longer need to tilt the screen to avoid the washout that is usually the result of viewing displays under the sun.

Lacking One Thing

Because it’s a portable that weighs a little less than four pounds, the Latitude XT2 does away with an internal optical drive. But before you panic, Dell thoughtfully ships the unit with its own e-module that has a DVD drive that you can also later on upgrade to a CD-RW/DVD writer.

A Great Choice

If you are a first-time tablet owner and would like to impress, the Dell Latitude XT2 model is for you. Consider yourself sold with the following convincing notes: the N-trig capacitive touch technology for better finger manipulation options, respectable battery life with handy power-saving options without sacrificing the weight.
