With the plethora of mobile mice out there, it's hard to figure out what you want in a package. Well, when you pick up the Razer Pro Click v1.6, there is no doubt that what you want in this baby, is pure, un-adulterated response. Carrying a digital infrared sensor that reads at 1600 dpi, 7 extremely tactile buttons, and an eye catching design that is also functional - this mouse is meant to deliver high precision with comfort. Although it has plenty of response, it requires the user to have control - which takes a bit getting used to. Don't expect to plug this baby in and whip it around like a pro. Like the product states - it has a learning curve, but having the ability to adjust the response on the fly is awesome.

RAZER PRO SOLUTIONS - Pro Click V1.6
The Pro Click v1.6 mouse is part of a new line of precision designer/gaming hardware from Razer, a company that has been focusing on high-end computer peripherals. This mouse, coupled with the proprietary software and track pad - provide the user with extremely intuitive response and control for the most demanding of situations. What truly separates this mouse apart from all the other high-end dpi mice is its ability to control the sensitivity of the mouse with just two buttons and its supplied software. All that is required is to hold down the side button, and scroll your wheel up or down to adjust the X and Y sensitivity.

The website lists the mouse for a price of $59.99 and the track pad $29.99, which will also be included in this review.

Design

Combined with an ergonomic design, large tactile buttons with a non-slip rubber like coating, and sufficiently lengthy USB cord, the Razer sets high standards that gamers and designer needs. It utilizes a highly sensitive infrared sensor instead of an optical sensor, and is crafted with Razer's reputable quality.

A few design issues that I encountered with this mouse is that it is almost too symmetrical, which doesn't flow to well with mice that are designed for either left or right-handed individuals. For example, the two side buttons are in the exact same location on either side, which makes it difficult to engage because the ergonomics of the mouse do not lead your fingers to those buttons. They would have been better placing them more towards the front of the mouse on the right hand side for right handed individuals, and vice versa for left handed individuals.

Some users may find the 'hump' where your palm rests too low for their taste, as in my personal case. Individuals who are very sensitive to the placement of their wrists and their motor capabilities should thouroughly test this mouse. Personal experience aside, it is designed very well. Blue lights add a nice ambient touch and the lightweight feel of the mouse is absolutely wonderful, especially for heavy gaming and graphics design.

Portability

Although this isn't a wireless capable mouse, it does offer a decent portability factor to its arsenal of features. For one, it is very lightweight and has a long USB cord. It measures roughly 5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches high so it remains a pretty low profile. But - don't plan on bringing the optimized aluminum pad everywhere you bring the mouse, since it is pretty large. But, no fear, the mouse performed very well on a multitude of surfaces, but I did notice it seemed to track more effectively on the optional track pad however.

One thing that really drags down the portable issue to the Pro Click, is that it needs a designated USB port to engage the proprietary software. Which really dampers the options to plugging it in a different port later on when you might need to use certain USB ports located on some laptops for certain devices. Again, and since this isn't a Bluetooth mouse, it takes up a USB port, which also might be a turn off for some individuals who utilize all their USB ports with other items, and have the option for a wireless mouse solution.

The mouse pad that complilments the mouse is designed to provide the optical sensor with the optimal surface for tracking. It has a nice shape to it, but is a little big for my taste with the dimensions of 10.4" by 13" - it demands some desktop real estate. And since the mouse is so sensitive, it could be a little smaller. I found myself only using about a 5' x 5' total surface area on my sensitivity setting. But then again, with most users who use their mice a lot will discover nothing is more important than having a little more space to move, then not enough. It is double sided, and like some other Razer pads for their precision mice, has a 'speed' and 'control' side. The speed side has a smoother surface to move the mouse on, while the reverse has a more textured surface for better control.

Recommendation

This mouse is definitely recommended, especially when precision matters the most. From the pristine response and control, to the simple but effective control panel, it gets the job done nicely. Although the price range is high for a mouse with a street price of $60.00, and $30 for the pad, the incredible tracking and available On-the-Fly settings may find these two elements valuable and worth the cost. I have had the pleasure of utilizing this mouse for most of my design work, and gaming and it has worked flawlessly. But I have to admit, it took some time getting used to, but once that learning curve was tamed, it has been a pleasure to use this mouse at home, and on the road.
