Short Review: A New Era in Netbook Computing with the Asus Eee PC 1000

With the netbook rising hard and fast to stardom, it does not come as a surprise to note that the company that first came out with it would be churning out improved models. Now that this new line of diminutive computing devices are being snapped up like hotcakes, the market will definitely look forward to the Asus Eee PC 1000 notebook – a ten inch wonder that simply proves how much Asus wants things to get better and better.

The very first Eee PC was nice as an introductory portable computing device, but after some time the cramped keyboard and the eye strain-inducing screen can get pretty tiring. Good thing the Asus 1000 came out in the market just before the first wave of netbook users were on the verge of going completely blind.

Small Done Right

The Asus Eee PC 1000 is powered by the Intel Atom processor with 1.6 GHz speed. This particular kind of processor was specifically designed for netbooks to provide a long-lasting, low-powered yet high functioning computing experience. With the Atom processor, the Asus Eee PC 1000 clocked in an impressive boot up speed of just under twenty seconds. This is already fairly good because the Asus Eee PC 1000 laptop runs on a Windows XP operating system. The older Eee PCs had faster boot up time but those run on only the lightweight and somewhat limited Linux OS.

Screen

The screen on the Asus Eee PC 1000 is amazing. At ten inches widescreen with a 1024 x 600 display resolution, you have a comfortable viewing real estate that you no longer have to resort to using the horizontal scroll command to see the left and right edges of your document or web page. The screen is not on the bright side (comparing it to the Acer Aspire One revealed that the Aspire has a brighter screen despite it being smaller) but is enough to view things in a comfortable light.

Keyboard

The keyboard of the Asus Eee PC 1000 is big at almost ninety one percent the size of a full keyboard. It is definitely easier to type with compared to the type and peck manner of working with the keyboard of the Asus Eee PC seven-inch 701 netbook. Those with larger hands might still find a bit of adjustment in the keyboard of the Asus Eee PC 1000 but it is nonetheless a remarkable improvement over the older one. The track pad is a bit short in terms of width though, but tracking options may be adjusted so that you can move from one edge to another in a vertical manner in one go.

Size

The Asus Eee PC 1000 comes 40 gigabytes of hard disk space, a big improvement over the 8 and 16 gigs of netbooks old. There is enough space for your document files and a modest few movies and music.

Conclusion

The Asus Eee PC 1000 is a breathtaking foray into bigger possibilities in the netbook market. Screen viewing is comfortable and the keyboard is easier to work with, and with a 40 GB memory suddenly there is so much more that you can do with it.
