Short Review: Simple and Reliable: The Acer Extensa EX4620-4691
The affordable Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop is a budget computer that those who are just beginning to get in tune with the mobile world will surely appreciate. It might be a bit on the simple side, but it sure is a good basic computer for those who are only after simple computing tasks.
Style
Being a budget laptop, the Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop also reflects simplicity of style inside and out. Within its all-black exterior lies an all-black interior with a generously spaced keyboard that makes a soft click when pressed. The track pad is nice and wide, horizontally spaced and perfect for reaching one end of the screen to the other (vertically).
Main Specs
The Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop runs on a modest Intel Cure 2 Duo T5450 processor with speeds of up to 1.86 GHz and has a 1 GB DDR2 memory. The specs are, as mentioned, on the modest side – but seemingly okay for simple word processing, surfing and watching videos or playing music. It also has 120 GB of hard disk space which should be enough for a simple user’s files – for documents and music alike. If you want to make backups of your files, you can do so with the included double-layer DVD-RW with decent write and read speeds of up to 24 x. The Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop runs on Microsoft Windows Vista Basic, the simplest version of the Vista series but nonetheless quite easy to work with.
Screen
The screen of the Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop is a good, not great one. The best saturation level is attained when you have set it to maximum level. The screen tends to get washed out when under direct sunlight, even if you tilt it low towards you. Still, for basic needs the screen works well. Movie watching, however, is best done in low-light conditions and (again) with the screen set to the maximum settings.
Stay Connected
The Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop has a surprisingly good amount of connectivity options for you to work with. This machine has four USB ports, a five in one media card reader, a FireWire jack, an S-Video as well as a VGA video connection, Gigabit Ethernet and there is a Type II PC Card slot to boot. For a budget notebook, that is already a lot – especially the four USB ports that come with it. Two other cool things about it would be the direct access switch for the Wi-Fi which is found on the front as well as Bluetooth.
Battery Life
The single disappointing thing about the Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop would be the battery life. At best, it can go on for two hours and fifteen minutes, which could be okay considering this is a budget computing device. But for a battery-saver mode you might get a bit short changed. For as long as you are not a multimedia-directed individual or a power user, you might get to appreciate the Acer Extensa EX4620-4691 laptop for what it is – a budget laptop that has a lot to offer for those who like to keep things simple.
