Short Review: Ferrari FR1100-5457 Notebook: Your Mobile Speed Demon

With companies seeking joint ventures and mutual marketing plans nowadays, it is not surprising to note that Acer has teamed up with Team Ferrari to come out with a special notebook that is almost fast enough to take to the race track itself. The Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook is one flashy computer that is not only a speed demon, but a status symbol as well.

Car Themed Computing

For the Ferrari side to come out in an Acer laptop, the Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook naturally had to be styled in such a way that one will think of Team Ferrari when gazing upon this computer. Its dominant black chassis is highlighted by discreet red and yellow themes, which are the team colors of the racing team. A Ferrari logo is also stamped onto the lid, which will definitely turn more than a few heads when push comes to shove. The inside reveals an all-black interior that looks as polished as its attention-getting exterior chassis but is also as prone to fingerprint magnets. Just like a race car that looks nice and shiny on the race track, the Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook will require a bit of polishing to maintain its sleek and pristine look and finish.

Astonishingly Compact

The Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook is definitely not as slim as Macbook Air, but is dangerously close to it. As a compact laptop, its dimensions are just a little bit bigger than your regular piece of bond paper. However, once you pick it up you might discover it is a bit weighty at 4.4 pounds – which is also the same weight for other kinds of ultraportable computers under the bulky side. Nevertheless, the overall feel of the Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook is that of a solid device that will definitely stand up to all sorts of knocks and bumps while being in transit.

Display

The 12.1 inch widescreen LCD display of the Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook has a native resolution of 1280 x 800. It is pretty much on the sharp side, but since it is also small some squinting is required in order to view what is being projected on the screen. Nevertheless, it was still found to be quite workable when it comes to everyday normal word processing as well as Web surfing. There is also a 1.3 megapixel found atop the keyboard for all your video conferencing needs.

Configuration

The Acer Ferrari FR1100-5457 notebook has a 2. 3GHz speed and runs on an AMD Turion 64 X2 Tl-66 processor. It has a very impressive 4 GB worth of RAM (double of industry standards for certified fast computing and CPU performance) as well as graphics by ATI Radeon X1270. While the extra 1 GB of RAM helped a lot in terms of opening big software like Photoshop, it was also found that the AMD processor is not just up to par with Intel based ones. It also runs a bit on the hot side, so you might want to invest in a cooling system to maintain and prolong the lifespan of your device (especially since it is on the more expensive side).
