Short Review: LifeBook U820 Tablet PC: A Great Thing in a Small Package
Despite the proliferation of netbooks all around, it is worth noting that the real deal “netbooks†might have traced their existence to the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC. Its revolutionary small design plus the added bonus of a tablet touch screen made it a computing device that was way ahead of its time. Call it prophetic, but here is a computing device that paved the way for what we have come to know and love in our computing devices nowadays – small and touch screen-enabled like netbooks and those Apple iPhones.
Dimensions
The Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC has one of the smallest dimensions back in its time. It specifically measured 6.7 inches in width, 6.1 inches in depth and 1.5 inches in height. Its lightness may be thanks to the 1.3 pound all-in-all weight thereby making it into the budget UPMC device category. Do take note that given its smallish dimensions the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC still was able to incorporate a widescreen LCD touch tablet on this thing as well.
Cool Features of the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC
Just because it is small does not mean it lacks in features. On the contrary, the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC has a host of features that one might be delighted to find present in such a small device. The Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC has its own GPS system, a Bluetooth antenna and a wireless LAN antenna to boot. Furthermore, security of data is given an extra layer thanks to the Fingerprint reader. If wireless is your thing, you will be happy to note that the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC also has wireless capabilities for netsurfing and Wi-Fi wherever you go.
Specs
The Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC runs on an Intel Atom Z530 processor and runs on a low powered CPU speed of 1.6 GHz. The RAM size that comes with this is 1 GB maximum SSr2 SDRAM and has a 60 GB hard drive running at 4200 rpm. These specs might be lacking in a fully fledged laptop but for the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC it is already something worth fawning over.
Design
Obviously, to keep things small they had to do away with the optical storage device on the all-black and functional Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Tablet PC. But with the host of connectivity options transferring data is as easy as pie. It even has a card reader for Secure Digital and Compact Flash. The 5.6 TFT active matrix widescreen display with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 WXGA is inches smaller than the screen on the 701 but the added plus of the responsive touch capability makes up for it (as well as makes us recall the palm pilot of days old). To add, there is also an integrated camera if you need to be connected via video conferencing (at 1.3 megapixels, too). If touch screen is not your cup of tea, the built in compact keyboard – which might take some getting used to – is there for your convenience.
