Short Review: Evaluating the Dell INSPIRON 15 Laptop
The Dell Inspiron series of laptops is one of the most popular ones, most likely because of two things: price and aesthetic appeal. And to best represent this, you have the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop as a great option.
Design
The design of the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop pretty much looks like the other models in the Inspiron series. You have a matte lid in basic black, white as well as other punchy colors with the signature round Dell stamp right smack in the middle. The lid of the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop is not a fingerprint magnet (much to the relief of those who are obsessive-compulsive with cleanliness and appearance) but does look like it has the tendency to be prone to scratch. The Dell Inspiron 15 laptop’s interior is very streamlined - everything is done in muted silver, but the gloss on the keyboard is very nice indeed. This is the improvement from the older Inspiron models that had black keys. The track pad real estate is very generous – there is enough room for you to move from one corner of the screen to the one directly opposite it. Also in brushed silver, the track pad of the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop is very responsive and the multitouch feature is much appreciated, too. Overall, the look and feel of the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop is not really a big improvement over the older models but you can clearly indicate a more sophisticated feel to this budget computer.
Processing
Sadly, the same cannot be said about the processor that comes with the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. The ob-board Intel Celeron 585 processor with 2.16 GHz speed is just alright if you are going to use it for basic processing. You can work a Microsoft Word document in one window, listening to Jamiroquai in your Windows Media Player in another window, and chatting with a friend over Yahoo Messenger in another. But if you think you can suddenly click and open Adobe Photoshop and let’s say for example Acid Pro (a music editing software), get ready to wait a long time. The Intel Celeron 585 processor just cannot handle any more stuff than your basic productivity ones, because the processor is not powerful enough. Games are okay to install for as long as they are not heavy on graphics because 1GB DDR2 SDRAM will not be able to support it – which translates into longer loading times for you.
Hard Disk
On the up side, the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop, despite having an Intel Celeron 585 processor has 160 GB of HDD. This is the usual amount of hard disk space included in most computers nowadays and should be enough to help you get through your tasks.
Conclusion
The Dell Inspiron 15 laptop is a great laptop that looks really nice in terms of aesthetics and great for watching movies, thanks to the spacious 15.4 inch widescreen LCD. But if your life requires you to do more than just simple typing and internet, then this laptop might end up disappointing you.
