Short Review: Eee PC 4G Notebook – Your Computing Companion
When the demand for “tote-able†notebook computers that did not have such a steep price tag became apparent, the company Asus came out with the Eee PC 4G netbook in matte black. This affordable ultraportable netbook has consistently been on many a-person’s “must buy†list because of the cheap price. While it is not a workhorse like a regular laptop, it is still good for performing your basic tasks like web surfing and typing up documents.
Looks
The Asus Eee PC 4G netbook is a tiny thing that you can easy grab with one hand. It is lightweight thanks to the cheap plastic material used and has a screen that is seven inches widescreen. The entire unit is done in matte black that does not attract fingerprints unlike its white counterpart. A silver Asus logo is stamped in the middle of the lid. Opening the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook reveals all-black interiors. The keys are miniscule, to say the least, and it might require some to incorporate a type and peck manner of working on such a computer. The track pad real estate was somewhat cramped, but it was perhaps to make room for a more comfortable wrist rest area. The track pad surface is nice, responsive and smooth the touch. What is not to be liked though are the two thin silver strips that indicate the left and right mouse click buttons. They are a bit on the tiny side and emit a loud and bothersome ‘click’ to it every time they are pressed.
Screen
The screen of the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook is seven inches wide – not enough to see a document from end to end but big enough for a notebook of its dimensions. Asus did not extend the screen from left to right and instead added two strips to indicate the speakers on its two sides. The speaker quality, by the way, was very impressive – whole sound even at the highest maximum setting.
Computing Speed
The Asus Eee PC 4G netbook comes with an Intel Celeron M ULV 900 MHz processor. The graphics card is an Integrated Intel GMA 9PU. Memory speeds of the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook is at 667 MHz with the 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM. These specifications coupled with a Linux Xandros operating system (specifically customized for Asus) make boot up speeds of the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook on the faster-than-fast side. You can power on the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook in a mere twenty seconds and can go straight to your productivity tasks in an instant. While 4 GB of SSD (solid state device) is small, you have an SD expansion slot which you can use to expand your memory to up to 16 GB with the purchase of an SD card.
Battery Life
It is nice to note that the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook runs for over three and a half hours on its 4 cell battery – certainly enough time to finish your on-the-go computing tasks before your laptop runs out of juice. With the simplicity it presents, it is clear that the Asus Eee PC 4G netbook is not out to impress others with high tech features. Rather, it intends to get the job done instead.
